I am often asked to describe life situations or issues that may cause a person to consult with a life coach. To answer that question, I love to first offer an explanation of what life coaching is and what I believe my role is with women I work with.
Life coaching focuses on the present and looks towards the future, assuming you are the expert. As a life coach, my goal is to support the discovery (or rediscovery) of your own wisdom and strength. I do have a tool box of ideas, activities and inspiration to assist you in that journey. However, my role is to guide you to a place of comfort and clarity where you can discover these things for yourself. I create a safe space for you to explore, experiment, question, dream and connect to the wisdom that is already inside of you.
Over the past 8 years, much of my work has been in the recovery sector. I have worked with clients struggling with depression, homelessness, addiction, mental health disorders and past trauma. My early professional training was in these areas and often these clients had both a therapist and a coach, addressing different issues they had and providing different levels of support. However, my typical clients are bored with life, struggling with a relationship, unsatisfied with work, lack confidence to really go after their goals or just feel “stuck”. In narrowing my focus, I have chosen to specialize in empowering and inspiring women in these situations to know their own strength, rediscover their own wisdom and find healing within themselves through intentional questions and guidance. This can take the form of a one on one session, as you might imagine a life coaching session, such as at a coffee shop, in a park, at a home or in an office. We may use meditation, writing or other activities during our time together. My style of coaching also takes the form of intuitively planned events and gatherings that offer safe spaces for women to explore their fears and ideas, connect and listen to their inner voice as well as experience new things. The themes of joy, wonder and adventure are the inspiration for most of these gatherings.
Women have presented me with a variety of issues- from troubled marriages, health concerns, anxiety and a lack of joy and purpose in their lives. We all experience times when we feel disconnected from ourselves, exhausted, uncertain of what’s next or unclear of what to. It is during these times when a life coach can walk alongside of you and remind you of what you have forgotten: that you are full of knowledge, wisdom, wonder and beauty and you can absolutely have the life you want.
